What is Jacquard?
Jacquard fabrics have unique patterns due to the way they are used. In most cases, if you look at the back of the fabric, you will find long threads. These threads are used to create the pattern. And you will immediately know that you are using jacquard fabric.
Most jacquard fabrics are woven, but knitted yarns are also available. Jacquard knit fabrics are single-strand or double-strand knit fabrics made from any type of yarn. Compared to single-piece fabrics, double-strand knit fabrics have no floating threads on the back and can be used reversibly.
This is because jacquard is a type of weave rather than a type of material. Therefore, it can be produced with many different types of fibers. Let's take a closer look at the components.
When mixed with stretch fibers such as spandex, lycra, and elastane, all jacquard fabrics have stretch properties. The applications of stretch jacquard fabrics are the same. However, they are especially suitable for form-fitting or close-fitting fabrics.
This type of fabric is also available in double-sided or double-sided designs. This type of fabric is woven on both sides. Usually, they have contrasting colors. And the beauty of this design is that it can be reversed: for example, you can buy a yard of jacquard fabric and sew a jacket using one side and a skirt using the other side. Or you can sew a piece using only one side, reserving the other side for contrasting details like cuffs, pockets or a collar.
