Jacquard

is a concave and convex pattern composed of warp and weft in textiles.

As early as the ancient Silk Road, Chinese silk was famous for its jacquard weaving. The jacquard process originated from the primitive waist-machine embroidery. The jacquard pattern has been found in the fabrics unearthed from the Shang Dynasty. The jacquard weaving patterns of this period are mostly linear diamond patterns, hui patterns, "cup patterns" and geometric shapes of the linear shapes of these patterns.

In the Qin and Han Dynasties, the silk jacquard fabric patterns were based on the pre-Qin geometric patterns, and small flower hui patterns such as birds, beasts, clouds and a small amount of plants were added. In the Sui and Tang Dynasties, lotus, scroll grass, sketched round flowers and other full shapes, round large hui plant patterns and other patterns appeared on silk jacquard fabrics, and plant patterns showed rich and rich style characteristics. In the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the silk jacquard fabric patterns were natural, smooth, delicate and fine.

Large jacquard and small jacquard

Large jacquard

Large jacquard is a large pattern weave woven by a jacquard machine. The number of warp yarns in the full weave of large jacquard can reach thousands. Most jacquards are based on one kind of weave, and another kind of weave is used to show patterns, such as plain weave and satin weave. Sometimes, warp and weft yarns of different colors can be used to make the fabric present colorful large patterns. Different fiber types, yarn counts and different warp and weft densities can also be used to make jacquard fabrics of various styles. The application of jacquard weave is also very wide, and it is often used in textiles such as bedding, curtains, blankets, etc.

Small jacquard

Small jacquard, a weave that uses two or more weave changes on the surface of the fabric to form a pattern, is called small jacquard. Small jacquard is generally based on plain weave. Small jacquard fabrics are more delicate and exquisite than large jacquard fabrics, and are also often used in high-end bedding, curtains, etc.

Difference

The size of the jacquard pattern cycle is mainly the difference in the loom. Small jacquard fabrics can generally be produced on multi-arm looms, while large jacquard fabrics must be produced on large jacquard looms.

Large jacquard fabrics are a weave cycle with hundreds of warp yarns, which need to be woven with jacquard looms. Dobby jacquard is a cotton fabric with small flower structures woven on a dobby loom, also known as small pattern fabric, dobby jacquard fabric.
